Hypodontia is the developmental abscence of teeth. It affects about 2% of the population and ranges in severity from the absence of a single tooth to the absence of all teeth. Patients with hypodontia usually require treatment by several dental specialists and often commence treatment as children (eg orthodontic treatment) and frequently need several temporary tooth replacements as growth occurs. Once growth has stopped a prosthodontist is responsible for the replacement of the missing teeth
11 teeth had failed to develop in this individual's mouth due to hypodontia. He also had several baby teeth which had not been shed as normal. 6 implants were provided to support the replacements for the missing upper and lower teeth.
